Designing the VEX Air Controller required a focus on ergonomics, clarity, and a sense of precision that matched the performance of the drone itself. My role centered on shaping the controller’s overall aesthetic, beginning with research into how users naturally hold and operate dual-handed devices. I explored multiple sketch iterations and physical mockups to refine grip contours, button placement, and the balance between functional accessibility and visual appeal. Once the design direction was established, I collaborated with engineering to translate the concept into production-ready CAD, integrating subtle industrial design cues that conveyed durability and modernity. The final controller design communicates control and confidence through a streamlined, approachable form.
